HARDIN CO.—A single-vehicle accident in Hardin County this morning has left a father and daughter dead.
According to information still coming in, Cynthia Renfroe, 25, and her father, Terry Dutton, 49, were both thrown from a vehicle she was driving in the early morning hours this morning, February 3, 2013. While the many reports we’re receiving have varied as to the time of the accident, the one official source we have is telling us it was around 3 a.m.
Our official source is reporting that the accident occurred in the area outside of Elizabethtown that’s called the Golden Circle, located in the area of Hardin County Schools on Highway 146. The vehicle may have been traveling at a high rate of speed; whatever the case, Renfroe lost control and the two were ejected; the vehicle continued to travel, breaking a power pole in the vicinity.
Hardin County’s coroner was called to the scene early on (right after the accident), then again at about 7:15. Unofficial reports indicate that scanner traffic noted it was for transport of a body. Traffic was restricted for several hours on that stretch of 146 as officials worked it, so it’s possible they weren’t aware that there were two fatalities until that time.
Sadly, sources who knew Renfroe say she has left behind an 8-year-old and a six-month-old. Renfroe was employed at Rose’s Restaurant in Cave-in-Rock.
Unfortunately, we’re now able to report that alcohol was a contributing factor in the wreck; our official sources had told us earlier that the two had been drinking at the bar in Elizabethtown prior to the wreck. We withheld the info pending a second confirmation, which we just got.
When we get more info, we’ll post it. Keep checking back.
