OLNEY—There’s a fundraiser set for this Saturday to benefit burial expenses for the late Ed Hataway, and to start a memorial scholarship in his name.
Ed Hataway disappeared on September 16, 2012; his last known whereabouts was at his own apartment outside of Olney at DC Sales, right next to the Walmart Distribution Center. His remains were found November 7, 2012, just off Highway 50 at the Red Hill State Park area of Lawrence County east of Sumner. Local authorities were tipped to the location of the largely skeletal remains by a letter to local authorities; his death is now considered by ISP to be a murder investigation, but is being handled by Richland County authorities, meaning it’s completely stalled.
The fundraiser is to be held at the Olney Eagles (downtown) and begins at 5 p.m. It will include a spaghetti supper; Chuckles the Clown will be present to entertain the young ones, and a live auction will be held, followed by an Olney band, Salt Rock Jones.
Items are needed for the auction; contact Kathy Walston Cunningham through her Facebook page to donate.
Once burial funds are raised, what’s left will be used to start a scholarship fund in Hataway’s name. Hataway was a Navy vet but his benefits didn’t cover any funeral expenses, so the community’s support would be greatly appreciated.
