ELDORADO—We finally learned what that was about…and that the story dude was giving authorities wasn’t exactly how it happened, at least according to ISP, who investigated it.
The original report was that the baby fell off a sofa when another young child was roughhousing.
However, after authorities took Adam F. Zappa, 22, of Eldorado, into custody, and charged him with aggravated battery of a child, the story got a little clearer.
According to court documents, Zappa is alleged to have shaken a nine-month-old boy (his girlfriend’s baby), “causing subdural hematoma and retinal hemorrhage.” That’s pretty rough shaking.
The baby was taken to Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado then transferred to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis for treatment. Illinois State Police agent Stacy Kinter worked the case and has been quoted publicly as saying that the baby boy has since been released and “seems to be doing well.”
Zappa is being held in the Saline County Detention Center; when we learn his bond, we’ll post it.
