OLNEY—The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois has announced that yesterday, December 11, an Olney man was headed to federal lockup for a substantial amount of time.

Thomas Rottinghaus, Jr., 39, a person who may or may not have been the subject of ranting calls from a Theresa Rottinghaus back in April (she was not really as coherent as she could have been, even when one of us called her to ask just what her problem was), was sentenced to 84 months in the Federal Bureau of Prisons and issued a whopping $300 fine after getting hemmed up in meth charges that went federal and pleading guilty to them, this according to a press release today from said U.S. Attorney, Stephen R. Wigginton.

The charges date back to March of this year, when officials alleged that on or about March 20 through 23, the younger Rottinghaus attempted to manufacture a mixture or substance containing meth; and that on March 23, he possessed equipment, chemicals, products or materials which may be used to manufacture meth knowing, intending and having reasonable cause to believe that those items would be used in the manufacturing of meth.

We don’t know what got up Miz Rottinghaus’ ass, and we won’t make any assumptions about what’s likely going to happen to the younger mister R’s, but one thing’s for certain: the Miz probably shouldn’t have called attention to the situation by calling a newspaper’s tip line and ragging endlessly, whether it’s about the elder Rottinghaus OR the younger. Nevertheless, it made for some entertainment…and kind of gives a background into what the BOP-bound Tommy had to deal with in his young life. It also goes to show that maybe the reason our prosecutor in Richland, David Hyde, keeps dismissing (or at least not charging) many of these meth-heads with any crimes is because they’re going fed…meaning Hyde doesn’t have to do the work. Yay. Go Dave.
