Stolen vehicle incident turns into fugitive incident

LAWRENCE CO.—An incident with what turned out to be a stolen vehicle last night ended with a car crash and a man fleeing on foot; and so far, it looks like he has managed to get away.

During a routine traffic stop last night (around 9 p.m.) on U.S. 50 outside of Lawrenceville, the vehicle under the control of the subject of the stop came back as belonging to a Newlin in St. Francisville. The officer radioed he was getting out of his car, but as he headed toward the Newlin car, it took off east toward Indiana. The officer radios that the vehicle left the scene, and called for backup, as well as for dispatch to notify Knox County, right across the Wabash River from Lawrenceville.

With the officer in pursuit, the fleeing suspect took the Mid-American Airport exit off 50. At that time, the car was reported to have spun around and was “heading toward” the officer, resulting in a call for stop sticks. However, before anything else could happen, the pursuing officer radios that it was a rollover, and not a turnaround of the vehicle to attempt to drive head-on into the cruiser. At that point, the call went out for medics, under the presumption that the driver and/or any passengers that may have been in the vehicle was/were injured.

Probably this is THE Ryan Hutton in question…if it’s not, I’m sure he’ll let us know, punk that he is.

Before THAT could be accomplished, the officer radios in that the driver has taken off on foot.

Other officers have by now showed up, and are searching for the driver with night vision, to no avail.

At this time, the searching officers are advised that the daughter of the Newlins who owned the car was supposed to have the car. When the owners and authorities get in touch with her, she advises that a Ryan Hutton is the driver (this looks to be the guy).

Dispatch runs Hutton’s name and learn that he has at least two warrants on him; one in Vanderburgh County, Ind., and one out of Florida, each for Assault and Battery.

The owners of the vehicle have in the ensuing hours filed a stolen vehicle report; whether Lawrence County lame duck state’s attorney Lisa Wade will follow through on anything such as this remains to be seen. As well, there’s been no indication that Hutton has been located, or taken into custody.

If we learn more, we’ll bring it; keep checking back.
