HARDIN CO., Ill.—A driver in a single-vehicle accident this morning near the Karber’s Ridge turn at Illinois Route 34 is a very fortunate man.
According to Hardin County officials, the driver (who remains unidentified at this time) was northbound on 34 at about 5:40 a.m. this morning (Thursday, November 13, 2014) on his way to work when, at about an eighth of a mile south of the Karber’s Ridge turn, he went to pass a semi.
The trucker described the incident as “when he went to go around me, he got onto a bridge crossing a creek, and that bridge had iced over; so when he hit the ice, he lost control of his vehicle.”
The vehicle, described only at this time as a passenger car (further information is pending), rolled over possibly multiple times before coming to rest on its top at the side of the road.
The driver was the only occupant of the car, was wearing his seatbelt…and was able to get himself out of the wreck and was up walking around when authorities arrived, a situation that Hardin County Sheriff JT Fricker said “just tickled” him to see that the driver had made it through what looked to be an awful wreck.
Fricker advised that an ambulance wasn’t even necessary, as the driver had called his wife—a nurse—and she arrived promptly, telling authorities that she would take him to be checked out and for any medical care he might need (he did complain of a sore shoulder while at the scene.)
More as we get it; keep checking back.
