CRAWFORD CO., Ill.—A down home attitude and a friendly demeanor, along with years of law enforcement expertise, brought Robinson city police officer Bill Rutan to the office of sheriff yesterday in Crawford County.
Republican Rutan, one of the most pleasant of police officers in all of Crawford, swept the race against challenger, Dem Rich Cravens, 2,278 to 1,270.
The Republicans have been gaining momentum in Crawford for a number of years now, so it’s not surprising that they party claimed victory in the race for sheriff. It was a clean race and both men were well-qualified.
