UNION CO., Ill.—The son of a Marion, Illinois, city councilman is on the hot seat in Union County after being indicted by a grand jury there.
Anthony L. Rinella, 30, of Metropolis, happens to also have been an assistant principal and athletic director at Anna School District No. 37.
But that’s in the past right now after being indicted October 7 on three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, each Class 4 felonies, after a September 28 incident prompted an Illinois State Police investigation into the matter.
Whatever happened on that day wasn’t made clear in press information, nor was the alleged drug of choice.
Rinella resigned his position with the school district on Oct. 9, two days after the indictments were handed down.
Why it took so long for the school district to mention anything about it is also unknown.
Rinella is the son of Marion city councilman Anthony Rinella, who, we hear, is planning to run for mayor of Marion next election.
More on this in the print version if we get it; be watching.
