Plane-crash

POSEY CO., Ind.—The pilot of a single-engine airplane that went down in Posey County, Indiana, yesterday afternoon is the only victim in that crash.

The pilot, whose name has not been officially released, was operating the Cessna when it went down in a field October 24, 2014, at approximately 5:15 p.m. (corrected from the earlier report that it occurred around 7:30 p.m.) The site of the crash was northwest of the city of Mt. Vernon, not far from the intersection of Copperline Road and Base Road.

Authorities are stating that the ensuing fire that enveloped the plane upon crash-landing burned the body of the pilot so badly that identification will only be made officially by methods other than the usual, despite the fact that flight records show who was piloting the plane. Local airports, we’re hearing this morning, don’t report a flight originating from their facilities; however, many aircraft owners in the area have their own private runways, and this flight may have originated from one of those.

Keep checking back as we get updates; we have a call in to Indiana State Police, who are assisting Posey County in the case.
