MORTON GROVE, Ill.—As announced in an October 9, 2014 post here at the site, the city of Morton Grove, the hometown of the late SIU-C student Pravin Varughese, took up the cause for justice in his death last week.
Varughese was found beaten to death almost a week after his disappearance form a college party in Carbondale in February.
We present to you now the video from the event, which features a number of speakers including Marion’s own Monica Zukas, host of WGGN’s Reality Check, which has been instrumental in calling out the authorities in Jackson County who have mangled the case so completely that their police chief, Jody O’Guinn, was recently terminated (although the “official story” is that his termination was not due to the fouling of investigations in other cases in the city of Carbondale, such as the theft of his own weapon, and the death of Molly Young, still unresolved.)
The attorney for the Varughese family, Charles Stegmeyer, called out Jackson County prosecutor Mike Carr, telling him to “resign and go home.” Also speaking are Dr. Ben Margolis, who performed the second autopsy on Pravin’s body wherein it was discovered that the local coroner, Tom Kupferer, was either inaccurate or being deceptive in his first autopsy, as well as an upstate congresswoman and Morton Grove’s mayor.
Here’s the vid:
A Saline County boy, Gaege Bethune, has been the subject of a wrongful death civil rights suit filed by the Varughese family in Jackson County. That case continues to slog through circuit court.
