SOUTH COUNTIES—At about 9 this morning (06.05.12) we received information from a source in Indiana that a Lifeflight had been dispatched to the Harrisburg Medical Center for a patient suffering burns from an accident at a nearby mine.
Thus far all we can learn is that the incident occurred this morning at the American Coal Mine in Galatia and was a surface accident. According to our sources in South Counties, a man working with a transformer was burned on his face and arm when something grew hot on the transformer and blew up. The man was taken to HMC and a call for Lifeflight was made in order to get him to a burn unit in St. Louis.
A different source has advised that the man is age 59 and has suffered second and third degree burns.
When we learn more, we’ll post it.
