CRAWFORD CO., Ill.—One of the many sex-with-students arrests made in the region last year has been resolved as of today.
Earlier today, Daniel Levi Damron, 30, the former Robinson High School teacher and coach whose arrest made headlines last fall over his Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse arrest and charge (later amended to Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault), entered a guilty plea to the second of the charges alleged against him at that time, Criminal Sexual Assault.
The charge is a Class 1 felony, and has landed Damron in Illinois Department of Corrections for a term of six years, all over having sexual contact with a student at Robinson High School. The mess came to light when the student’s father filed an Order of Protection against the high school teacher, this in late November of of last year. It also came about when other cases were being featured in the media regarding educators or those otherwise employed in a school setting having sexual conduct with students, and prompted a lot of media outcry, especially from this news organization, which is very cognizant of the problems inherent with schools hiring (or even electing) people who end up preying on the student body.
Damron, along with his DOC sentence, has been ordered to pay $5,122 in fines and fees, none of which have yet been paid. He will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
