WILLIAMSON CO., Ill.—We’ve noticed a trend around here in downstate Illinois.
When all the high-rolling Democrats in the area get their panties in a twist because one (or more) among their number gets involved in something questionable, it appears that the REALLY high-rollers—at the state level—come to southern Illinois.
A good example would be this: Every time Eric Gregg screws up (and that’s pretty common), Pat Quinn finds a compelling need to sign a bill or do a groundbreaking in Marion, or hold a press conference in Harrisburg. These are usually nonsense, grip-and-grin occasions that generally give the impression that our governor has nothing else to do with his time besides backpatting gigs with his political buddies. But they seem to coincide with a front-pager about Gregg. Or even John Bradley, state rep who’s in a potential whole heap of trouble over a fraud accusation in his divorce in Union County. Quinn just randomly shows up…gives a few days’ notice…and grips and grins for the cameras.
And now, Lisa Madigan is coming on down to the pit of the universe, Marion.
We learned this through a press release received yesterday, which is as follows:
-30-
We don’t know why Marion, of all places, is the venue for announcement of the state’s nightmarish pension issue. But there she is, right over there in Williamson County…and with John and Josh Bradley on page 3 this month. Go figure.
Of course, there are other developments. We learned yesterday that one of Crazy Jim Watson‘s employees, having been the victim of Poor Boys’ shutdown last week, supposedly went to the unemployment office and was advised that she couldn’t collect unemployment because no unemployment taxes had been taken out and submitted on her from the bar. Imagine that…it’s our understanding that ChickenBob Wilson was doing Poor Boys’ taxes. You’d think he’d have noticed. We also learned this past week that there’s a real crack in the foundation of ChickenBob’s other enterprises, which we won’t enumerate here. But we do know that CB is tight buddies with the upper echelon of state government…so maybe things just needed a boost around here with the presence of one of those upper echelon. Like the state’s attorney general.
Too bad she couldn’t make it to Friday’s Ang v. Cottage Township hearing in Saline County circuit court. There seems to be a lot of confusion going on in that matter as to what the case is about. Apparently Cottage Township’s attorneys haven’t been keeping up with things in our paper like the judge has. Multiple complaints have been submitted to Lisa Madigan’s office about the situation, and there has been an investigation opened. We really wish she’d pay attention to things like that, too, besides the pension crisis. But hey…much of that was her dad’s own making, anyway.
So we’ll keep you posted as to what’s going on. No pics of the grip-and-grin for Lisa, as we’re all about Ferguson, Missouri, today. So check back frequently.
