FRANKLIN CO., Ill.—The man who officials believe murdered his wife earlier this year has been charged with additional counts in Franklin County circuit court.
John P. Adams, 67, of West Frankfort, was accused in the March 31 shooting of his wife Kendra, 52. Mrs. Adams suffered a small-caliber gunshot wound to the back of her head.
Adams obscured the situation by reporting that his wife, who died the next day, April 1, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville where she’d been taken for treatment, was “found unresponsive” in their home; he later confessed to having shot her, and authorities found what they believed to be the weapon in a drop-ceiling in the couple’s home.
But now, he’s facing five separate counts of Solicitation to Commit Murder for Hire, this following the investigation into his alleged activity authorities have indicated as of today: That Adams was attempting to hire a person to kill certain family members, as well as a public official.
None of the family members have been named, and of course, the public official was not, either.
Adams remains incarcerated on the murder charge awaiting trial; things have been delayed recently due to a fitness exam, but it was recently revealed that he was indeed found fit to stand trial and assist in his defense.
The two counts of murder he’s facing in his wife’s death are both Class M felonies (non-probationable); the new counts are all Class X.
