HARRISBURG, Ill.—Tonight, the Governing Council of the City of Harrisburg met for their regularly scheduled first meeting of the month of August, despite the death of Harrisburg’s Mayor, Ron Crank, early this morning, (Thursday, August 7, 2014).
The meeting was opened with the customary prayer, but with an added moment of silence, in remembrance and honor of the late Mayor Crank.
Regardless of the sadness of the day, the Harrisburg City Council carried on, saying that Mayor Crank would have seen to it that the City’s business was tended to, even without him.
With that thought in mind, the council had a very busy night ahead of them.
In Old Business, the council voted on matters of an adjustment to the Motor Fuel Tax Estimate regarding the cost of road salt for the winter weather, dedication of the Poplar Street extension, changes to the sewer treatment plant improvement plans, and discussing and accepting bids for two parcels of land in Harrisburg.
New Business pressed matters of new TIF ordinances and agreements, three proposed alley closure and vacations, the approval of a fourth alleyway closure and vacation, Poplar Street extension matters, flood control measures, and financial preparation for a loan to be used for watermain repairs, as well as a grant to be used by the city for improvements as the city sees fit to use it.
Administrative reports consisted of strictly Executive Session matters of Contract Negotiation, Sale of Property, Lease of Property, Personnel, and Possible and Pending Litigation.
