Gov. Pat Quinn’s campaign has released its first re-election ad. The 60-second ad focuses on what the Quinn campaign calls the governor’s record of “making tough choices and fighting for the consumer.”
You can watch the entire ad below. Below the video is the press release from the Quinn campaign along with a full transcript of the ad.
Quinn for Illinois today debuted a new television ad that highlights Governor Quinn’s work to lead Illinois’ comeback after inheriting a triple crisis of corruption, financial mismanagement and the worst recession since the Great Depression.
The new 60-second spot – titled “Comeback” – features Governor Quinn’s record of making tough choices and fighting for consumers, going back to his days spearheading the effort to create the Citizens Utility Board.
“It’s in times of challenge when leaders are tested, to do what’s right – no matter how hard,” a narrator reads. “Pat Quinn’s never backed down from a challenge – even when it meant taking on the powerful.”
The Governor’s record of getting the job done is highlighted in the positive new spot, including:
Spending Cuts-Gov. Pat Quinn has cut more than five billion dollars in state spending, and has tackled tough issues that other politicians ignored for decades.
Created Jobs-Under Pat Quinn, the Illinois Comeback from the Great Recession has meant lower unemployment and more people at work today than when he took office.
Citizens Utility Board-Pat Quinn’s advocacy led to the creation of the board that protects consumers against unfair utility rate hikes, and has saved the public billions of dollars.
Suspended Legislators’ Paychecks- In 2013, Governor Quinn stood up to politicians in both parties when he suspended legislators’ paychecks and refused his own to prompt action on pension reform.

NARRATOR:
It’s in times of challenge,
when leaders are tested.
To do what’s right, no matter how hard.
Pat Quinn’s never backed down from a challenge…
even when it meant taking on the powerful.
As a young man Pat Quinn took on the giant utilities.
He stopped them from gouging families on their electric bills.
It’s who he is.
Pat Quinn sees problems, takes action, and gets the job done.
With an economy in meltdown, and a crisis of corruption,
Pat Quinn took over as governor…
and went to work.
He cut five billion dollars in spending. Created jobs.
And when legislators refused to fix the pension crisis,
Pat Quinn stopped their paychecks cold, and refused his own, until the job was done.
That’s the test of leadership.
Now, Illinois is making a comeback.
With so much more work to be done,
Pat Quinn’s the leader we need on our side.
Pat Quinn. Governor.
Because courage counts.
And character matters.
