SALINE CO., Ill.—A local Saline County crim was behind the wheel of a vehicle crash yesterday that sent his passenger to Evansville by helicopter.
Kyle Day, 24, of Carrier Mills, has made it to the headlines again after the 5:42 p.m. wreck on Illinois 145, while Stephanie Walker, 27 of Harrisburg, was hospitalized in Evansville following the single-vehicle wreck.
Illinois State Police say that Day, driving a tan 2013 GMC Acadia, was northbound on Illinois Route 145, approximately 800 feet south of Butler Road in Saline County, when he lost control of the Acadia after falling asleep yesterday (July 4, 2014).
ISP then states that the Acadia left the roadway to the right and struck the ditch, crossed the roadway and struck the ditch on the east side of the roadway, which is where the vehicle came to rest. Walker, the only passenger was transported by Saline County Ambulance to a local hospital where she was later taken by Air Evac to a hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Day was not injured in the crash.
The GMC Acadia was towed from the scene by Bishop’s Towing of Harrisburg, Illinois.
The Illinois State Police was assisted at the traffic crash scene by the Saline County Sheriff’s Department, Harrisburg Police Department, Saline County Ambulance, Air Evac and Bishop’s Towing.
