For all the grief we’ve given people in the past who have associated with the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, we’ve got to say: Sometimes it’s not all thugs who are attracted to MMA.
Case in point: Ethan McQueen.
McQueen has had a rough past several years, having lost his older brother Sean in a motorcycle accident in 2009, then last year, his younger brother, Tyler, was convicted in what remains a questionable case of the murder of Bob Westall.
Through it all, McQueen maintained, and combined his love of sports with business acumen in order to develop a training center for those who’d like to participate in MMA, “The Compound” in Lawrence County. A young Lawrence County man has turned a propensity to “fight” as a youngster into a profession few can attain.
Ethan McQueen, 24, of Bridgeport, admitted that he used to “get into a lot of trouble fighting when he was in high school.”
But instead of rumbling his way into trouble with the law as some do, he focused his energies when he found a “sparring partner,” Mike Carwile, and through a series of events with another Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) gym in the area, he ultimately formed his own fitness center. Called The Compound Fitness in Petrolia, the gym trains MMA participants and hosts enthusiasts who come to watch, and has quickly become a “go-to” place for the sport.
It was Carwile, McQueen said, who talked him into going to Griffin’s Den….
