HAMILTON CO., Ill.—The blatant robbery at the McLeansboro Dairy Queen last night has caused an incredible level of concern for the safety of employees of businesses in that town.
Authorities have been asking for input since the incident occurred at about 7:30 last night, when surveillance cameras show a black male entering the store, walking right up to the open safe and taking a large amount of cash out.
Here’s what Amber Miller, a McLeansboro DQ employee, just posted on a link on Facebook:
Just to clear this up a little… There was me, another manager up front. A manager in the kitchen plus 3 other employees! We had just gotten done with a rush so we were cleaning the front and kitchen. He came right in the back door, watched and waited for no one to be back there and went right in and got it before anyone even Thot about seein him.. It only took 30 seconds for him to get in and out. It can happen to anyone obviously…. But plz be sure the back door and office doors are always locked for ur own safety! Everything happens for a reason.. There was a reason no one seen him, I believe if Sumone had seen him they could’ve easily been hurt! So I’m just thanking God for keeping everyone safe! U never think that it would happen to u until it does.. Wen I seen the video my eyes filled with tears! I was so mad at myself but wat would I have done? He’s 2 of me! I know I would’ve tried everything I could if I would’ve seen it but I didn’t but I know now I can no longer believe I am safe even in my own workplace! But we do not need to let this go! He did this way to easily ! So he’s done it before! He knew his target and went for it.. Not being racist at all but if u see a black male look him over very well! There isn’t many around here! Plz help us find out this criminal! Before he gets to u or Sumone else
Her fears are well-founded…last year, a bank robbery in Dahlgren caused the same kind of turmoil among those in the area, as the man has never been apprehended.
The suspect in the current robbery is described as a six-foot-tall black male weighing about 240-280 pounds, in his mid-30s to early 40s.
Anyone recognizing the man in the surveillance pictures, or having any information about the crime, is urged to call the McLeansboro Police Department at (618) 643-4357.
