CHRISTOPHER, Ill.—Sad news to report out of the small Franklin County village of Christopher this week, with the suicide of a local police officer.
Scott Davis, reported to have most recently been a patrolman for the village of Buckner, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head this week in his home in Christopher.
Davis had been in the news as recently as February, when he resigned his position with the village of Christopher after he got his police car stuck in the backyard of a residence in Mulkeytown.
Authorities said that Davis had gotten “disoriented” after experiencing a change in medication; this may have been indicated by Davis’ insistence, when he was asked what he was doing that caused him to drive through someone’s back yard, that he was “just patrolling.” Davis subsequently resigned that position, citing “medical reasons” for the resignation.
However, there were other problems Davis seemed to be experiencing.
On the day he was discovered deceased, he was set to appear in Williamson County court on a Domestic Battery Causing Bodily Harm case.
A previous charge of same he receive on another occasion had recently been dismissed on January 3rd.
He leaves two young toddlers as well as his wife, September Poole Davis.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time; there are several blue ribbons being posted around the village of Christopher in his memory.
