EAST MOLINE, Ill. • A Quad Cities woman was sentenced to five years in prison for forgery after authorities say she lied about having cancer — even creating fake medical records — to swindle her boyfriend.
The (Moline) Dispatch reports Jennifer L. Pauley was sentenced Thursday. She’d pleaded guilty in February after authorities dropped other charges in the case.
Investigators said Pauley, 34, created fake medical records and forged the signatures of area oncologists. She used her boyfriend’s personal information to open lines of credit and write checks under his name.
Police say Pauley never had cancer and used the money to support a drug habit.
