HARRISBURG—A Stonefort-area man is in custody this evening at the Saline County Detention Center after a bizarre incident Monday night in Harrisburg.
Police were called to a residence on the north side of town after a female there reported that one Nathan Reeder, 21, who reports an address of Stonefort, was banging on her door Monday night (March 17, 2014), telling her that he was “going to prison” because he’d “stabbed a man.” Reeder stated that the man’s name was Kyle, but that’s as far as we’ve gotten with trying to identify the victim.
The female had told authorities that she’d demanded Reeder leave, but when she came to the door, he’d grabbed her phone from her and run with it, with her following. Someone else, either hearing or seeing the disturbance first-hand, called the police, who apprehended Reeder and got her phone back to her.
After Reeder was questioned, he was taken in on preliminary charges of Aggravated Battery, Unlawful Use of Weapons and Attempted Murder. When formal charges were filed yesterday, they reflected two of them: Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm, and Felon in Possession/Using a Weapon.
The alleged victim was taken to Deaconess; no word on his condition, or what exactly his wounds were. And of course, no indication of why this even happened in the first place: Reeder’s father, we’ve been told, died of an overdose a few days prior to this incident, so maybe the young man was having difficulty with that and was acting out…but this is a bad way to allegedly act out, if so.
More in the coming days as the case progresses through the system; we’ve not viewed any bond information, and no upcoming court hearing has yet been set.
