WABASH CO.—While we’re still waiting on a mugshot, we’ve learned that alleged public funds thief Ericka Whittler, of Mt. Carmel and originally of Carmi, has actually been charged with a crime for her alleged misdeeds.
Whittler was the Mt. Carmel city treasurer up until about a week and a half ago, when she resigned under pressure after funds were discovered missing from city hall. The funds were supposed from impound fees and amounted to $4,125.
Amusingly, local mainstream media in Mt. Carmel have declared in a headline that “no taxpayers funds were missing.” What they fail to realize is that no matter from WHERE the missing funds originated, because it was “property of the City of Mount Carmel” as stated in the charge filed by prosecutor Cassandra Goldman, that “property” is the PEOPLE’S property. It’s too bad MSM has sunk to the point that they don’t realize or recognize this any more.
A warrant has been issued along with the charge of Theft, a Class 3 felony, by the way, and Whittler, as of this posting, has not been picked up, hence the lack of a mugshot.
The remarkable thing about this is the fact that charges have been filed at all. Whittler is the third or fourth person CAUGHT stealing from the city or county since we’ve been covering matters there (2003) and nothing has been done to the previous alleged thieves. It’s unclear just what kind of pressure Goldman was placed under in order to get her to act….but one guess might be that the city somehow believes they can recover the funds this time, hence the pursuit of the charge.
Because the others from city hall were never charged, but were only let go, we’re not going to produce their names at this time. As far as we know, the investigation into misappropriation of funds by former E911 director/coordinator Colby “Cheeseboy” Rigg is still underway (since last August), but non-productive.
More as we get it, including Whittler’s mug.
