Some housekeeping: No, John B. Jones didn’t go to trial Jan. 31

SALINE CO.—The number of people we’ve seen today wanting to talk about John B. Jones and saying “Why haven’t we heard anything about his trial??” have outnumbered anyone else talking about anything else.

Why is everyone so interested in John B? We don’t know. He’s a disgusting lowlife, but then, that’s our opinion. Maybe it’s everyone else’s too, and people are just ready for him to go away. Whatever the case, they’re all wanting to know, apparently also because no other media is bothering to keep up with the rat. So here ya go.

John B., when he was running for public office (coroner) & thus made himself a public person

John B. got another continuance on his previously-set trial date of January 31. There’s no big sordid reason for this; there’s a pretty standardized reason for it, as a matter of fact: Some subpoenas couldn’t be delivered to some of the witnesses in the case. Now, what we’re hearing about the reason WHY they couldn’t be delivered isn’t the most heartening: we’re hearing that some of the witnesses have died. Which is what you get sometimes in the funeral home business, which is what Jones was in all his livelong days until a few years ago. But whether that will adversely impact the case or not remains to be seen. Most of what’s against John B. is on paper. Documents will be able to prove whatever is being alleged against him about thieving money from pre-need funeral plans, as that’s something that’s closely regulated, like banks or insurance.

But Jones is milking this delay for all it’s worth. Just last weekend, he started a rumor about himself that he wasn’t going to go to trial because “the money had been found.” We heard this from no less than three different individuals, all of it on deadline, which you know just made our hair stand on end. But, it was not the case at all. Jones probably, in all likelihood, ate, drank, smoked, partied and pissed that money away. He sure as hell didn’t spend it on child support. That was what got his license cancelled a few years back.

The new jury trial date is May 1. This isn’t something that State’s Attorney Mike Henshaw is handling in Saline; if it were, John B. would already have done his prison stint and been out with a looser orifice or two. Instead, it’s being handled by the appellate prosecutor’s office, that place that brought us David “Rollover” Rands. Rands isn’t doing the Jones case; it’s being handled by Chuck Zalar, who has done an effective job in the past. It just doesn’t look like John B. is a priority in Saline, what with all the murders, child molesters, dopers, etc. So we’ll just have to hang tight and see what May brings. It’s not that far away. In the meantime, if you hear anymore tall tales, like “all the charges have been dismissed,” or “they found all the money,” run it past us first via email or here at the site or on Facebook. If we’re not on deadline (like we were last week), we’ll get to it right away.
