WABASH CO.—We’re beginning to wonder if there is any community in southern Illinois where there ISN’T someone stealing.
We’ve just been advised by Wabash County sources that one Ericka Whittler has just resigned her position as city clerk for the City of Mt. Carmel after a substantial sum of money turned up missing recently.
This isn’t the first time there’s been someone in city hall in Mt. Carmel who’s absconded with taxpayer property recently (or at least, since we’ve been covering matters, nearly 10 years now). But there seems to be an epidemic of poor hiring choices going on when it comes to people in Wabash County. Colby Rigg, former E911 director, comes to mind.
Of course, nothing ever happens to these people, either. To our best understanding, the last person fired from city hall (from the water department, if we’re remembering correctly) wasn’t prosecuted. Rigg thus far hasn’t been prosecuted (and there’s enough he was alleged to have been doing to get every damn E911 director hemmed up over SOMETHING in the state, if only the prosecutors would start cracking down on them). This gal is probably going to be told go back to Carmi and we just won’t worry about it.
We occasionally say “we must be in the wrong business.”
What we know about Whittler, which lends to our assertion that there are some really bad hiring practices going on in Wabash, are these few things: We were told about this months ago; the woman lived with a registered sex offender (Danny Deisher) having him around her very young children, and she’s allegedly been having an affair with the city comptroller. Our sources are calling her a “homewrecker.” I mean, bad enough she’s alleged to have stolen from city coffers…but look at all the rest of this on top of it.
We’ll keep you apprised of developments, if there are any. Keep checking back.
