BLACK ICE RESULTS IN TRAFFIC CRASH ON COUNTY HIGHWAY, FRANKLIN/HAMILTON

HAMILTON CO.—A traffic crash last night just at the Franklin/Hamilton county line sent a young Carmi driver to the hospital in McLeansboro, according Illinois State Police.

The crash occurred at 8:50 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 on Illinois Route 14, 90 feet west of Hamilton County Road 30 East.

black ice, wreck, crash, accidentPreliminary traffic crash investigation shows that the driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Keaton T. Pollard, was eastbound on Illinois Route 14 just east of the Franklin/Hamilton County line when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve in the roadway that was covered in black ice. The vehicle skidded sideways off the roadway to the south, crossed a culvert and a ditch before the rear passenger side of the vehicle collided with a tree.

Pollard was transported to Hamilton Memorial Hospital by Harre Ambulance of McLeansboro for treatment of injuries sustained in the traffic crash. He was treated and released. Pollard was wearing his seat belt.   

Pollard’s vehicle was removed from the scene by Dave’s Towing of McLeansboro. 

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, McLeansboro Police Department, McLeansboro Fire Department, Harre Ambulance, and Dave’s Towing of McLeansboro. No citations were issued.
