A 15-year-old girl who was shot along with her mother as they sat in a car outside their Romeoville home has died, authorities said.
Briana Valle was pronounced dead at 12:03 a.m. today at Loyola University Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Briana and her mother, 33, had gotten into a car in the 300 block of Emery Avenue at about 7 a.m. Thursday when police say Erick M. Maya walked up and fired several shots through the passenger window of the car. Briana was shot in the head twice and her mother was hit in the neck.
Maya ran west along 135th Street and was found hiding under a deck behind a house on Hickory Street, two blocks away, police said.
Romeoville officials said Sunday afternoon that a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was located in a yard near the intersection of 135th Street and Hickory Avenue, near where Maya was found hiding by police.
Maya, 23 of Cicero, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow.
