No one was seriously injured but 20 people were taken to hospitals for observation after a student released pepper spray in a classroom at Chicago Military Academy, officials said.
An Emergency Medical Services Plan 1 was called around 11:45 a.m. today at the Bronzeville high school at 3519 S. Giles Ave. after a hazardous materials alert was called, according to officials.
A female student was in police custody, News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan said.
The pepper spray was released in a classroom at the school, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Joe Roccasalva. Nineteen students and one teacher, all listed in good condition, were taken to hospitals to be checked, Roccasalva said.
