MARSHALL CO., Kentucky—There’s been another towboat strike at a bridge on one of the area’s many waterways, this time in Kentucky (we say “another” because last year, a strike on the Ohio during the big flood, this one outside of Shawneetown, was quite the news).
Reports out of Marshall County indicate that at about 8 p.m., a towboat struck the Eggners Ferry Bridge, which spans across Kentucky Lake and the Tennessee River on U.S. highways 60/80.
A portion of the bridge has collapsed, say transportation officials; however, the good news is, no one was on the bridge at the time of the collapse.
Emergency crews are at the scene and many of our south counties readers are listening to the response in scannerland. If we get more, we’ll bring it, but those of you who travel that area, be advised. We don’t have rerouting information as yet; that may come along later.
