EFFINGHAM/JASPER COs., Ill.—One of the bodies found near the Embarrass River outside of Newton has lead to a murder investigation which has resulted in the arrests of three individuals.
While there have been quite a few bodies found in Jasper County over the past couple of years, we believe the one authorities are referencing is this one, dating back to 2012, and which Illinois State Police investigators were requesting information about earlier this year, per that post.
As it turns out, the remains, found near the Embarrass north of Newton, are those of Joseph Delaney, 54, of Effingham, who disappeared in July of 2011.
Now, three people are under arrest:
Kristy Mathis, 40, of Effingham
Zebediah Houser, 25, of Effingham
Christine Burr, 57, of Dieterich

They have been charged today (December 17, 2013) in Effingham County: Burr has been formally charged with three counts of First Degree Murder and Concealment of a Homicidal Death; Mathis and Houser have each been charged with the Concealment of a Homicidal Death count. They’re set to appear in court tomorrow morning. More as we get it.
