SNOW ACCOUNTS FOR INTERSTATE WRECK IN WAYNE COUNTY

      WAYNE CO., Ill.—A Kansas man attempting to pass a trucker from Texas learned how slick Interstate 64 was earlier this evening after he lost control of his Mercedes-Benz.

The accident occurred at 6:24 p.m. tonight, Friday, December 13, 2013 on 64 a quarter-mile east of Mile Marker 107 in Wayne County.

Dante L. Langston, 34, of Junction City, Kansas, was eastbound in his 2007 Mercedes-Benz S550 when he attempted to pas a 2012 Red Freightliner truck-tractor semi-trailer combination being driven by Stanley E. Adams, 53, of Terrell, Texas.

As Langston was passing the Freightliner, he lost control of his vehicle on the snow covered roadway.  Illinois State Police who worked the accident report that the silver Mercedes-Benz rotated 90 degrees and entered the right lane of travel in front of the Red Freightliner. The Red Freightliner struck the passenger door of the silver Mercedes-Benz and pushed it off the roadway to the south.

Langston was transported by the Wayne City Ambulance Service to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries he sustained in the crash. The Mercedes-Benz was removed from the scene by Rick’s Towing of Fairfield. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.  The Illinois State Police was assisted at the crash scene by the Wayne City Fire Department.

Langston was cited for Driving Too Fast for Conditions, No Valid Registration and Improper Use of Registration.
