FLORA, Ill.—The Flora Police Sergeant whose vehicle was struck by a semi earlier this evening is reported to be alert, awake and responding to treatment after a significant collision on the edge of town.
Flora Police Chief John Nicholson has reported that Sgt. Guy Durre was responding to a report of a car-deer accident on the northeast side of Flora when, at approximately a quarter-mile east of the intersection of Stanford and U.S. 50, his vehicle was struck by a semi traveling the highway while Durre was on the south side of 50.
Nicholson reports that Durre has sustained unknown injuries to his left shoulder, side and hip. He was transported by air evac directly from the scene even though the collision was not far from Clay County Hospital, and taken to a hospital in Evansville for treatment.
The semi driver, whose identity we don’t have yet, was uninjured but was taken over to the hospital as a precaution.
Nicholson said he was on the way to Evansville with members of Durre’s family, and will report on Durre’s condition as it further becomes available, but for right now it appears that although he’s been injured, he’s going to be okay.
