Carrier Mills, IL – A car colliding with a power pole in Carrier Mills this afternoon has lead to extended power outages for some Carrier Mills Ameren Illinois customers.
The accident occurred at 3:00PM when a 2005 Scion struck a power pole on at 454 N Thompson Street.
The driver of the vehicle, Alexa Hutchison, 18, and a juvenile passenger were heading northbound on Thompson Street when Hutchison became distracted by something inside of her vehicle, causing her to take her eyes off the roadway. When Hutchison struck the pole, the pole snapped in half and was suspended by the live power lines that ran to it.
Both airbags in the vehicle did deploy at the moment of impact, but no injuries were reported by Hutchison, or her juvenile passenger. The Scion was completely totaled by the accident.
Multiple Ameren Illinois crews are currently working in Carrier Mills to restore power to the village. Crews hoped to have power restored by 8:00PM.
