WAYNE CO. Ill.—A young man from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri has been ticketed after an Interstate 64 accident in Wayne County this morning.
Illinois State Police have advised that the traffic crash occurred at 8:13 a.m. this morning, November 20, 2013, on the westbound lanes of I-64 east of Mile Marker 103 in the rural part of Wayne County where 64 passes through.
Dylan T. Young, 20, of Whiteman AFB, Missouri, was driving a 2002 Chevy Trail Blazer when he reportedly fell asleep and struck a guardrail on the south side of the roadway. Following impact with the guardrail, the vehicle crossed both westbound lanes of Interstate 64, rolled, and came to rest on the north shoulder of the interstate.
Young was transported by the Wayne City Ambulance Service to Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield, Illinois, for treatment of his injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt.
Young was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
The Chevrolet Trail Blazer was removed by Rick’s Towing of Fairfield, Illinois. ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Wayne City Ambulance Service and the Wayne City Rural Fire Department.
