METROPOLIS, Ill. – Aid agencies have already gotten into gear, and are working to provide help to anyone who needs it after today’s tornado in Brookport.
The First Baptist Church in Metropolis, which is located at 307 Massac Creek Road, has opened their doors, and plan on having a shelter open for those who need a place to rest or wash up. Initially, the church had asked the public for blankets for those who might need them, but the operation has expanded as the extent of the damage has been fully realized.
Currently, the Metropolis Baptist Church is asking for food, towels and washcloths for the shelter that they are offering. The Metropolis Baptist Church has also reported that the Red Cross and other larger aid agencies will be providing cots, additional blankets, and anything else that private citizens haven’t donated.
The church has enough rooms to house 100-200 people if need be, and also has shower facilities for anyone who needs to wash up, regardless of if they plan on staying in the shelter or not.
