At 4:09 am the City of Olney Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 728 South West Street in Olney, IL. Officers on scene reported flames were visible coming from the rear of the Papa Mike’s business on the South end of the complex. The fire spread through the complex damaging the Papa Mike’s and NAPA Auto parts businesses. Several area fire departments were called for mutual aid including the Noble/Wakefield Fire Protection District (FPD), Claremont/Bonpas FPD, West Salem FPD, Wade FPD, Bridgeport FPD, Clay City FPD, Sumner/Christy FPD and Lawrence/Allison FPD. One firefighter was struck with a piece of metal when oil and chemicals inside the NAPA Auto Parts store exploded. The firefighter was treated on-scene and was not seriously hurt. Fire crews are continuing fire suppression activities on scene at this time.

RICHLAND CO.—A major fire broke out this morning (September 6, 2013) at the location of Papa Mike’s on South West Street (Illinois 130 North) in Olney.
The first fire responders (city of Olney FD) arrived at 4:35 a.m and saw at that time that the fire had spread to the adjacent NAPA Auto Parts store.
Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was alerted for additional engines and firefighters at 5:15 a.m.
A second alarm was issued at 6:14, with three buildings reported on fire at that time. The fire, it’s been reported, has also spread to the Rural King warehouse.
Our reporter was there at about 7:15.
Response to the fire has involved all Richland units, Sumner, Bridgeport and Lawrenceville.
The fire is almost out at this time (about 8:30 a.m.) Olney Fire Department has advised they’re prepping a press release and will be submitting it shortly; we’ll bring it here for you.
