ST. LOUIS—One of the managers (CORRECTED) of a popular Harrisburg eatery died yesterday in a motorcycle accident in St. Louis.
Mike O. Evans, 32, a manager at Morello’s restaurant in Harrisburg, was attending a motorcyclist enthusiast event, “Ride of the Century,” scheduled for today, when at about 6 p.m. last night (Saturday, August 31, 2013), his motorcycle clipped an unmarked police car and crashed.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Elizabeth and January avenues in downtown, where those attending the event were “speeding and doing stunts,” according to witnesses and as reported to St. Louis media outlets. The bikers had been warned to avoid such stunts during this year’s event.
Evans was with three other bikers when the three passed an unmarked police car on the right side of the car. The fourth biker, Evans, passed the car on the left, knocked off the side view mirror, lost control of the motorcycle, slammed into a light pole, and landed in the grass. The other three bikers left the scene; it’s unclear whether they were fully aware of the crash, or if they had ridden on ahead of it and literally didn’t know.
Evans was pronounced dead at the scene; his name was only recently released pending notification of relatives.
