HAMILTON CO.—We’ve had a couple of readers overnight issue their opinions on a post we put up late last night.
We saw a perfect opportunity to display to new readers the crap we take in on a daily basis, all because when we get police reports, we don’t leave anything out…and report it just as the information comes in to us, unless we speak with someone there on the scene to get additional information.
In this instance, we took information in this post directly from the state police report as it was issued to us (we get reports from various agencies as media-issued in batch email form).
Yet, people still give us hell. Observe what we saw when we viewed our Facebook page this morning:
So we corrected that little error, and then a little further down (past the disagreeable and likely drug-addled Tina Williams, who has made front page of the next issue due to her connections with Hardin County’s prosecutor, for those who are interested), there was this:
So we decided it would be good if you all could view exactly what it is that we get in on our email from the state police:
And if that screenshot isn’t enough, I even put the actual pdf in the media file here.
We got it, everybody within 50 miles of District 19 got it, everybody who got it reported it exactly that way. So why are these people on OUR Facebook page griping?
It probably has something to do with the fact that, while we have been in existence doing what we do for over a decade, our presence has been growing exponentially, and many people don’t like it. So they have a tendency to make sure somebody sends in someone to screw with us occasionally (Tina Williams notwithstanding; she’s just disturbed…but dope will do that to ya). What’s bothering these people, these powers-that-be who gripe and whine or send their people to do such a thing, or spread lies about us so that 40,000 people reading online yesterday, or nearly 5,000 print readers every month, will doubt what they’re reading?
People who realize that there’s no one above us; that there’s no “boss” they can call like corporate media has, someone in the home office they can call and bitch at and “make them stop” this, that or whatever.
Yes, it is possible to have a successful independent, non-corporate-owned media in a massive area of a state. We’re proof of it. We don’t need a corporate home office. We don’t need a mass advertising base. We don’t need to do anything except TELL THE TRUTH…which we do…to the chagrin of those in the government who aren’t used to that. They’re used to being able to call the local papers, radio stations, TV meat puppets, and asking them to “do a favor” and “not report about that.”
They can’t do that here. And they never will.
This is just a MINOR representation of the crap we deal with daily. But we don’t care. Because we have YOU, the REAL readers, to please and to answer to. And telling you the facts is what pleases you.
