GIBSON CO., Ind.—Gibson County Sheriff George Ballard has advised of how Thomas Davidson was taken into custody earlier today.
Ballard told Disclosure that his department has been looking for Davidson, 25, since earlier today, when it was believed he was involved in the disappearance of rural Gibson County woman Sandra Burkhardt, 58.
Both Burkhardt and Davidson reside in a rural location of Gibson County south of the community of Johnson, not far from the Posey County line, shown at the “A” mark below:
It’s believed that Davidson abducted Burkhardt at gunpoint. Beyond that, authorities can’t say what occurred; they only know that Burkhardt is still considered missing.
However, earlier today, Davidson is alleged to have shot at a person in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, in Posey County. The person is said to have been shot “through the glass” of an auto. Authorities weren’t clear on who shot through which auto.
However, Burkhardt’s silver car was found crashed into a tree in a rural Pike County, Indiana, location earlier today (around 4 p.m.)…and according to Ballard, it had two bullet holes in the windshield, both of them appearing to have originated from the inside of Burkhardt’s vehicle.

From there, it’s believed Davidson exited the crashed Burkhardt vehicle and, after traveling on foot, allegedly burglarized some homes in Pike County, ultimately making off with a white SUV.
That SUV was found in another rural location about four miles away from Pike County High School. Having had information that he was armed, Pike County law enforcement approached Davidson as a felony arrest, got him on the ground, handcuffed him, and brought him in. He was taken to Gibson County, and not long ago was transferred to Posey County, where a warrant for his arrest was issued this morning over the shooting incident. He’s currently being held in Posey County.
Charges against Davidson are pending in Pike, as well as in Warrick County, Indiana, where it’s alleged Davidson has committed burglaries as well.
Ballard said he hasn’t been advised of the body located in rural Crossville earlier today, and so could not comment on it. Sgt. Todd Ringle of Indiana State Police, however, has advised that ISP is aware of the investigation into the body in White County, Illinois, and will likely have some information for media in the morning.
White County authorities could only confirm that a body was found, and that it is the body of a female. Illinois State Police, as usual, has been unreachable throughout this.
