WHITE CO.—Josiah Thompson Griffin, 28, of 707 N. 7th St., Carmi has been charged with Aggravated Battery and Resisting a Police Officer.
Authorities say on July 21, Griffin knowingly caused bodily harm to Justin Spencer when he pushed the front door of the Huck’s store into Spencer, knowing Spencer to be a peace officer engaged in the execution of his official duties, and fled from the officer and resisted being secured in handcuffs after being told he was under arrest, his violation being the cause of the injury to deputy Spencer.
A cash bond has been set in the amount of $2,500.
Griffin has a long criminal history dating back to a March 2007 beginning with an Aggravated Battery conviction that sent him to the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for three years,
In addition to the prison time, Griffin was ordered to pay $288 in fines and fees of which he still owes $152.70.
In November 2009 he was charged with one count of Residential Burglary, which was later amended to Theft less than $300 for which he was sentenced to two years conditional discharge and ordered to pay $391 in fines and fees of which he’s paid nothing in four years.
Two years later, in September 2011, Griffin was convicted of Obstruction of Justice/Destroying Evidence and sentenced to 90 days in jail, another two years of conditional discharge and ordered to pay $271 in fines and fees of which he’s paid nothing in two years.
Recently, on June 20, Griffin was convicted of Aggravated Battery and was sentenced to three years in DOC and ordered to pay $337 in fines and fees but, before he could be transported to prison he was charged on June 27, with Felon Fail to Return From Furlough
That case is still pending.
He is currently being housed in the Menard Correctional Center awaiting an Aug. 12 preliminary hearing for his latest and pending charges.
