Mount Carmel — Every summer, just before school starts, Mount Carmel breathes a little bit of life into a couple of otherwise forgotten blocks of Market Street for four nights at the beginning of August. Rides are trucked in and erected and carnival games are set up and operated. Typical carnival fare is available, not to mention a couple of specialty highlights being served by some of our elected officials and local business owners.
Tonight I was lucky enough to catch Wabash County State’s Attorney Cassandra Goldman in the Wabash County Democrat’s booth, and she served me up one of the best ribeye steak sandwiches I could have expected. She offered me some garden-fresh sliced tomatoes which really topped off a surprisingly delicious sandwich. My wife wanted a corn dog… and was disappointed by the stale offering she purchased, but we made up for it with a fresh-made cinnamon & sugar dredged elephant ear.
I caught up with Angela Crum a couple of nights ago. Angela is always so friendly to me… regardless of some of the crap I’ve been seen in that courtroom for throughout my past. She always picks me out in public and calls me by my name… and to me there is no higher form of class than remembering somebody’s name and using it in a friendly manner whenever you say hello to them.
I watched the Little Miss Ag Days pageant start… All of those kids are darned cute.
My Lil’ Step ditched me and her mom to hang out with her girlfriends… They could be seen riding The Zipper over and over again throughout the night. Occasionally they would stop to center themselves enough to partake in random conversations with passing boys…
Or so I’m told.
Prizes were won and smiles were had by all who were interested in experiencing a little bit of distraction and happiness.
