Identity of driver killed in Hardin County crash released

HARDIN/SALINE COs., Ill. - A single-vehicle crash Tuesday night (April 23, 2019) claimed the life of a Saline County teen, and authorities released the identity earlier today, Wednesday, April 24.

Officials say the accident occurred on Highway 34 in Hardin County when a 2001 Mazda Tribute blew a tire, which caused the vehicle to run off the road and strike a tree. The crash killed the driver, Shelby Nielsen, 17 and a Junior at Carrier Mills High School in Saline County.

There were three other teens with her, not identified at this time by name, age or gender. It's reported that two were treated at the scene of the crash; the third was transported to an area hospital.
