EFFINGHAM, Ill. - A two-vehicle accident sent drivers to St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham after one of the drivers failed to slow down in a work zone.

Illinois State Police in Effingham said the incident occurred at 7:23 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, April 17.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a white 2008 Honda being driven by a 16-year-old female from St. Louis was traveling northbound on I-57 at mile post 152 in Effingham County.

A silver 2008 Chevrolet being driven by Marian E. Fulk, 60 of Farina, was traveling in the same direction when it merged into the left lane to avoid IDOT work crews and reduced speed.

The Honda failed to slow down and struck the Chevy in the rear. Both drivers were transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham.

The teen driver was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
