SCHUYLER CO., Ill. - An upstate meth bust has kind of an unexplained incident buried in the middle of it...but apparently the point of the press release as issued by ISP is the fact that this was quite a sizable bust.

Here's the presser from the Illinois State Police.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at approximately 7:25 p.m., an Illinois State Police (ISP) District 20 Trooper conducted a traffic stop on US 67 just north of Illinois Route 100 in Schuyler County.

During the stop, indications of criminal activity were observed and the occupants of the vehicle were separated for further investigation.

Methamphetamine was located during the search of the individuals.

Valeria Martinez, 45, and Kevin Weinmann, 27, both of Beardstown, were arrested and transported to the Schuyler County Jail for processing. Martinez and Weinmann were charged with various narcotic offenses and were lodged at the Schuyler County Jail.

Agents from ISP Zone 4 Investigations and the West Central Illinois Task Force (WCITF) responded to conduct an investigation.  After further investigation, it was discovered that a substance was placed in a sports drink bottle the Trooper had in his squad car.

After consulting with the Schuyler County State’s Attorney, the following charges were approved:
