WILLIAMSON CO.—We’ve obtained the names of the three women terminated from the Williamson County Circuit Clerk’s office on Monday, as well as some of the details of the alleged activities that caused the termination.
Released from their positions Monday were Kelly Trammel, Sue Davis and Cheryl Cundiff, wife of former Williamson County sheriff Tom Cundiff.
The three were reported as having been interviewed by Illinois State Police agents on Monday and, after that interview, were escorted to their vehicles and told to leave the premises and not come back.
The interview was initiated after it was discovered that bond money was missing from that office, where it’s brought over from the sheriff’s department when an arrestee posts bond there.
There has been only one report of an amount alleged to have been taken, and that comes from a source close to Cundiff’s case, who has advised that she allegedly “admitted to taking $20,000.”
There’s no information on how long a period of time was being scrutinized for alleged theft. However, officials can only investigate back to three years before the date of an initial report, and prosecuting officials can only charge a felony back to those three years. In effect, such a thing could have been going on for more than a decade, but only the alleged criminal activity of the previous three years can be charged.
Right now, there are no charges formally filed. Disclosure only learned of the case through sources within the Williamson County courthouse yesterday afternoon. Whether prosecutor Chuck Garnati will follow through, and how soon, remains unknown at this time.
The matter comes on the heels of other discoveries of corruption going on in Marion and in Williamson County, including the city of Marion water department’s Linda Heyde who is now charged on the federal level. As a matter of fact, we have an interesting piece coming up on something associated with Heyde in the next print version (August 14), which will be in our new vendors in Williamson Count to be announced soon, as well as available right here online at the comfort of your own computer…be sure you have an active online membership to get your e-Edition, and watch for developments as we get them, by checking back frequently.
