WHITE CO., Ill. - The teen who at one point was being eyed as the videographer in a beating that proved fatal for a Carmi man last year is back in the headlines again.

No new Leif turned

Leif Harper

This incident involving Leif Harper, 19, has him arrested, so he might be off the docket for a little while, at least, while he figures out what behaviors get him there in the first place.

White County Sheriff’s reports indicate that last week (April 9, to be exact) at approximately 10:46 p.m., a deputy was on routine patrol when he observed Harper go into Huck’s Convenience Store on West Oak in Carmi. The deputy knew Harper had an arrest warrant issued recently by White County on the Domestic Battery on a Public Way charge (as featured in this article), so the deputy made contact with Harper in the parking lot. Assisted by Carmi PD, the deputy advised Harper of the warrant, secured him in handcuffs, and transported him to the White County Jail.

There, he was served an emergency Order of Protection, and he was able to post bond to be released.

Licenseless

In a separate incident the day prior, White County Sheriff’s reports indicate that a traffic stop on Monday, April 8 at 10 a.m. got a guy in Crossville for driving without a license.

A deputy on patrol in that village observed Jason Davis driving a blue Dodge Ram truck and, knowing he was licenseless, he followed Davis to his residence on Morrell Street and arrested him.

Davis was transported to the jail, where he was held in lieu of bail on the misdemeanor, then, documents show, he plead out at his court date.

Windmills in the yard...or not

No. Not THAT type of windmill.

Also on the 8th, Samee Gunther called the sheriff’s office to report a theft from her premises. Gunther, 28 of Enfield, advised at 7:44 p.m. that evening that she’d left the house during the day only to come home and find her 7-foot-tall windmill missing. She stated that it seems every time her house is unattended, someone steals things from her yard.

A report was taken, and then within a few minutes, Gunther called back and stated that her neighbor had seen a green four-wheeler in her yard but had not known who the operator of the vehicle was. She added that the grain bins across the road might have security cameras.
