Repeat offenders continue to plague Richland County felony filings

Diego Sanchez from 2011. He looks like that all the time.

RICHLAND CO., Ill. - As promised when we ran the felonies filed in Richland the other day, here are some reviews of some of the repeat offenders to be found on the court docket in the month of March.

The first is Diego M. Sanchez, 52 of Olney, who can't keep from popping up on the authorities' radars every so often.

Sanchez was charged in March with an incident dating back to February 28 that occurred at the trailer park where he apparently resides (his address is listed as Lot 37 at the location on South West Street; the incident occurred at Lot 27). Charging documents show that Sanchez caused great bodily harm to one Mark Cessna by punching Cessna in the face; therefore Sanchez was charged with Class 3 felony Aggravated Battery.

A preliminary hearing was held on March 19 and a motion to reduce bond was made, but that didn't fly, probably because Sanchez is still running afoul of the court by continuing to get in trouble and doing basically lip service on his fines and fees dating back to 2002 in Richland (he still owes $142 in F&F on that case, and $510 on a 2011 case; $32 in a 2016 case; and $1968.75 on a 2018 DUI that only recently worked its way through the court system....making it clear why Judge Larry Dunn was reluctant to reduce bond, as Sanchez likely would just get into more trouble.)

It's possible that this new case might get Sanchez sent off to IDOC for a short stint...but it's also possible that because he dribbles little amounts periodically on his fines and fees (as opposed to the dopers in town, who get their handlers to post their bond so they can continue to sling their poison), the court might but him a break. We'll see what happens next week.
