HENRIETTA, Texas—Authorities are releasing scant information on the shooting death of a Harrisburg, Illinois boy last night in Henrietta, Texas.
However, they are releasing the details of what occurred and the situation as it stands right now.
According to Clay County sheriff’s department personnel this evening, this is the official stance at the department, per a release given to all media inquiries:
Clay County Sheriff Kenny Lemons says the boy died from a gunshot wound after his thirteen-year-old stepbrother accidentally shot him with a 12 gauge shot gun.
No charges have been filed against the shooter, but one adult has been arrested and charged with child endangerment for keeping the gun unsecured and not watching the children properly.
Clay County, Texas, authorities when reached by phone this evening declined to identify the adult who was arrested. However, Disclosure can say that the little boy who was shot was nine years old, and a student at Harrisburg schools.
The incident occurred at about 6:30 Friday, August 2, 2013, at the residence of the grandparents of the two boys in Henrietta. Apparently, the incident occurred in the backyard of the residence, where authorities focused their investigation initially.
Disclosure is withholding the names of those with whom the two boys were staying in Henrietta pending notification of local family members. However, family has contacted Disclosure, advising they are aware of the situation, and that this was a tragic accident that has impacted the family greatly.
