HARDIN CO.— According to authorities, an underwear-clad Fairfield man has been charged in Hardin County with Driving Under the Influence after an incident involving a semi-tractor trailer.
Sources indicate that Jeremy L. Duffield, 26, of Fairfield was on Gaskin Mine Road headed toward Illinois Rte. 13 when he failed to stop and struck the side of a semi, this occurring late last night, Friday, August. 2, 2013.
No major injuries were reported for Duffield or the driver of the semi, who was operating his rig for Thornton Trucking.
Shortly thereafter official sources say Duffield left the scene of the crash, taking off on foot.
“He was found three and half hours later walking down the side of the road wearing only rebel flag boxers,” said one official.
The rebel DUI driver was taken into custody without incident.
Duffield is a 2005 convicted felon from Wayne County after being arrested and charged with one count each of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine Manufacturing Chemicals, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (prescription medication), Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.
After being found guilty on the controlled substance charges he was sentenced to one year in the Illinois Department of Corrections and ordered to pay $3,149.14 in fines and fees.
A pair of Wayne County 2008 Theft charges were later dismissed, but a felony conviction in 2011 Aggravated DUI/License Suspended or Revoked, also in Wayne, earned Duffield 10 days in the county jail and two years conditional discharge.
Apparently the rebel undergarments held no sway with Wayne County officials who revoked Duffield’s conditional discharge and re-sentenced him to 60 days periodic confinement in the Wayne County jail and two additional years of probation.
Evidently it wasn’t periodic enough, as he was free to move about the country and was doing so last night when the crash occurred.
