MARION CO., Ill. - Two Salem residents were transported to their local hospital following a two-vehicle accident earlier this evening on Route 37.
Illinois State Police said the wreck occurred at 6:35 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, March 6, on Highway 37 at Oakwood Street.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a white 2011 Chevrolet 4-door sedan being driven by J. Patrick Young, 80 of Salem, was traveling northbound on 37 near the intersection of Oakwood Street. With Young was passenger Mary Young, 79, of Salem.
A white 2014 Chevrolet SUV being driven by Kimberly A. Hayes, 57, also of Salem, was stopped in the northbound lane, yielding to oncoming traffic and waiting to turn left onto Oakwood Street. Young, ISP said, failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of Hayes' vehicle.
Both Mary Young and Hayes were transported to Salem Township Hospital by EMS. J. Patrick Young was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
